Professor Ralph Tabberer CB
Owner and Chairman of BBD Education

Ralph Tabberer is an expert educator with more than 35 years experience in the school sector, in higher education and in government. He was Director General of Schools in England between 2006 and 2009, a post in which he was responsible to PM Tony Blair for the development and performance of 23,000 primary, secondary and special schools in the UK.

Ralph left the UK civil service in 2009 and moved to the Middle East to join the international private school operator, GEMS as Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Schools. In 2012, after a highly successful period steering GEMS through the recession and preparing it for further growth, Ralph established the first of his own businesses. He now co-owns and chairs BBD Education which is based in the UK and GCC, to provide consultancy, solutions, management and HR support for schools and for international school chains.

Ralph is renowned as an education leader who is steeped in classroom practice. As a former teacher and researcher into how children study and learn, he has expertise in curriculum, pedagogy, student assessment, teacher development and the new technologies. As a former regulator of one of the world’s largest national systems, he is often in demand not only as a business leader but also as a governmental adviser. In the last year he has co-authored reports on low-cost schools in Africa and Asia, and on the expansion of international schooling globally. He has been instrumental in bringing some of the world’s leading schools to the GCC.

Ralph is a graduate of Cambridge University and a qualified teacher. In the New Years Honours list of 2009, Her Majesty The Queen invested Ralph as a Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (CB) in recognition of his services to teacher training and to schools. He is a visiting professor at the Institute of Education, University College of London and an Honorary Professor at Warwick University

 

Shaun Robison
Chief Executive of BBD Education

Shaun Robison is an entrepreneurial, senior education leader who has delivered a range of projects in the Middle East.

Shaun has worked with investors, operating companies, consultants, teachers and government regulators to plan, license and deliver start-up projects with large Cap-Ex requirements. Shaun is passionate about education and entrepreneurship and has an excellent mix of commercial and educational competencies, having written feasibility studies, financially modelled schools and early learning centers, and opened them in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

He has a full working knowledge of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE), the Lusail City Real Estate Development Company and the MOE in Qatar. Before working for BBD Education, Shaun was the Head of School Development for Sobha Developers and managed the opening of Hartland International School, a premium British Curriculum School in Dubai. Shaun also oversaw the opening of the IDEA Early Learning Center in Victory Heights, Dubai and serves as a governor to the Center.

Shaun brings digital, project management and marketing strengths to BBD Education. He has established networks of tens of thousands of teachers and school leaders, throughout the GCC. These networks provide a strong foundation for BBD’s activities in teacher recruitment, senior staff search, research and communications. Shaun is also a qualified teacher and was Lead Practitioner and teacher-trainer in Abu Dhabi and the UK in the past.

Shaun is a Research Associate with Newcastle University and a member of the British Educational Research Association. Shaun regularly contributes to the Education Matters show on Dubai Eye.

 

 

Luette Robertson
HR Consultant for BBD Education

Luette Robertson is a dynamic, efficient and experienced HR professional who has managed people in various organisations in both the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.

Before joining BBD Education, Luette was the HR Manager at Victory Heights Primary School, Dubai. Luette was part of the core pre-operations team and managed the launch of the HR department. Luette has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in UAE Labour Law and teacher recruitment and retention. Luette has developed policies and procedures for new and existing schools for all curricular and price points. Luette brings expertise in developing HR departments from their inception. Luette manages the HR and recruitment department of BBD Education.
